An old man was walking along a beach after a particularly high and violent tide had receded, leaving thousands of starfish stranded above the waterline to die. Ahead of him he saw a youth, bending down and then standing to fling something into the waves. Coming closer, he saw the youth was tossing starfish back into the ocean where they had a chance to live.  "Why bother?" the old man told the youth. "There are thousands here. You can't toss them all back before they die. You can't even toss a small fraction of them back in time. What you're doing doesn't matter."
The youth pondered that a moment, looking at the starfish he held in his hand.

"It matters to this one," he replied, and threw it back into the water.

Join us at Motor City Ferrets in Hazel Park for our annual fundraising Yard Sale!

We've already changed the schedule twice - please note the new dates below!  Now you know how this works:  we try to plan for a weekend but of course we can only have the sale weather permitting, so please check back on the scheduled weekend for any last minute schedule changes!

For now our sale is scheduled for Thursday, May 12 through Saturday, May 14 from 9:00 - 4:00 each day.  On Sunday, May 15, we'll have an Open House at the regular time:  4:00 - 7:00.  The sale will continue on Sunday but only from 3:00 until 7:00 (to coincide with our Open House), and everything left will be marked down to 50% off!  So if you're in the neighborhood please stop by to see if you can find a treasure or two and help the Shelter ferrets!

And here's just a quick note to let friends know what's happening over at Facebook:  the Shelter has been using a Facebook group for more than a year now to keep folks updated about goings on.  We don't currently use Twitter or any other forums/message boards, just the Facebook site.  Recently Facebook has decided to reformat these Groups, which means ours was headed off for the garbage bin!  So we just started a new Page for the Shelter where you can keep up with happenings, share stories and photos, etc.  Above on our menu the link now takes you to our new Facebook Page.  If you'd like to visit the "old" Group please head over to this link:  http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=73304158041  The old Group will stay up until we get everyone moved over to the new Page (a manual process), so please use the old Group for historical purposes and Like our Page via the link on our menu above to keep in touch!  Thanks!
